One can sometimes be in for a surprise when one of their business travel almost turns out to be a holiday destination. Something of that sort happened to me last year when I had to attend an official get-together in Costa Rica.

The view from the room was mesmerizing. The greenery all around with the mountains in the backdrop is a perfect setting for a great holiday

I had heard a lot about how beautiful Costa Rica is and how it can be a perfect family getaway. Considering that this was my first travel to any Central American country, I was looking forward to this trip. One does need to keep in mind that getting to any Central or South American destination is not very easy from India. There are very few flights, and the connections are also not that great. My flight from Bangalore to San Jose (Costa Rica) was an almost 30-hour flight, and the transit was through Paris.

Considering that my return leg was even more complicated (San Jose -> Atlanta -> Paris -> Bangalore), I planned to travel light with only hand baggage. Business travels from the past have made me pretty efficient to stuff all the necessary items in a bag that can be carried in the cabin. The last thing that you want during these transits in the US is to wait for your check-in baggage to clear immigration and then continue your onward journey.

I landed in San Jose, Costa Rica at around 6:30 PM, and it was a breeze to get through the immigration. Indian citizens do not need a Costa Rica Visa if they already by a B1/B2 US visa. The drive from the airport to the hotel is around 30 minutes, and considering that it was a Sunday evening, there was not much traffic. I was in for a big surprise when the cab pulled into the lane leading to the hotel. The beautifully lit main building of the hotel was so welcoming that it made me question whether I was on a business trip πŸ™‚

The main building that houses the rooms, restaurant and the bar

The hotel for me brought back memories of the resorts that we had stayed in Goa (India) and the ones in Bali (Indonesia) and Phuket (Thailand). The only difference being that this was not a beachfront resort. The rooms are very neatly designed and have all the necessary items that one will require doing a stay.

For more details on the hotel, you can visit their website here

The road leading to the hotel. The entire hotel is beautifully maintained. One can find coffee plantation on both sides of the road leading to the hotel.
The swimming pool area. The weather was a bit cold and the swimming pool area was pretty windy during my stay. Considering that I was on a business trip, the last thing that I would have wanted was to fall sick. Unfortunately, had to skip a swim πŸ™‚
The well maintained room. The room that I was staying is in the main building overlooking the mountains. The room was contemporary and well designed and looked to have been renovated recently.
The Fitness center and Spa – the hotel has a very well maintained fitness center and SPA. The fitness center was very good with all the machines in good condition. It is always good to have a workout to get over the jetlag. Unfortunately, did not get time to visit their SPA and hence cannot comment about their ambiance and services.
The view of the main building from the golf course. The walkway along the course is a perfect joggers path. Evenings are the perfect time to go for run – with the sun setting, wind gushing down from the mountains.

Watch the below short view to get a glimpse of my stay at this beautiful hotel. I would definitely plan a family vacation in the future and explore the length and breadth of Costa Rica. There are many exotic and beautiful places to visit in Costa Rica. Whenever I do visit Costa Rica, I do see myself plan a stay at the Costa Rica Marriott hotel. Would any day recommend this hotel if you are planning a trip to Costa Rica
