Anayirangal dam is located near Munnar and is fast becoming one of the best attractions in Munnar. The word “Anayirangal” literally translates into the dam where the elephants come down to quench their thirst.

Anayirangal lake nested amidst the tea plantations

The dam is located at about 22 kilometers from Munnar and one has to take
Pooppara – Thekkady road to reach this beautiful place. If you have your own car, the best possible route to reach this place is to drive for around 15 kilometers from Munnar to Chinnakanal (which is a key landmark in Munnar). From Chinnakanal, proceed towards Thekkady and within 7 kilometers, you should be reaching this destination. The lake/ reservoir is nestled amidst the beautiful mountain slopes and one will find the entire landscape laced with tea gardens.

This place is an ideal setting for photography enthusiasts as the landscape is stunning. Over the years, I have seen many of my photographer friends shoot this landscape and they all look stunning :).

The food court and the shop where one can buy spices and other local handicrafts.

If you are planning a trip to Munnar, it would not be complete without a visit to this beautiful lake. This lake is slowly catching up on the top tourist destinations in Munnar and it will be a good idea to visit this place before it gets commercialized.
