Nested amongst the white sands of Utorda beach in South Goa, Kenilworth Beach resort sprawls across acres of pristine beaches and tropical paradise making it one of the ideal beach resorts in Goa.

I happened to visit this resort on couple of occasions – the first time during a corporate event and the second being a family vacation. During my first visit (in the month of May), I could not explore this resort and place much as most of the time was spend in the boardrooms attending meetings and presentations. But one thing that brought me back to this resort was the great beach that this properly is located on.

The resort is located in Utorda which is a short drive from the Dabolim Airport and Margao Railway Station. Utorda beach is one of the remote beaches in Goa which have not yet been commercialized to that extent. It can also be considered as one of the most amazing beaches in South Goa. There are 2 other famous beaches located near Utorda beach – Majorda in the south and Arossim in the north. There is a very narrow river (well more like a stream) which basically separates these beaches. This stretch of beach has one of the best white sand beaches in Goa. The sand here is very fine in texture and of dazzling light colour. The sea here is relatively calmer and thus makes is enjoyable for a swim (I am not a great swimmer, thus have not ventured into deep sea).

Kenilworth

The pics below will reiterate the point that I was making about the beach. This has to be one of the cleanest and beautiful beaches in South Goa.

There are only 2 resorts located on this stretch of the beach, one being Kenilworth and the other one being Royal Orchid (located right next to Kenilworth). The entire beach is nested with great shacks to laze around – the prominent and recommended ones being Balton (we spent most of our time in this Shack), LLoyd’s shack, Boat Quay Grill,  Zeebop, and Camillos Stack Shack. Since there are only 2 resorts located on this stretch, the beach is very clean and is practically devoid of any crowd. One can spend hours sipping a cold drink and reading a book enjoying the view without being disturbed -an ideal setting for a family.

The Resort

This resort might not be one of the grandest resorts in Goa, but it is very well maintained. The resort can be easily accessed as it is hardly 4kms (10  mins) drive from the National highway (Edgapally – Panvel highway). We were 2 couples and had booked couple of rooms. The booking process was pretty smooth. We drove down from Bangalore and reached the resort at round 4PM.  We had a traditional welcome with Goan music and a drink.  check-in was also pretty fast. Rooms were ready and we were in our room within 10 mins and did not have to wait for a long time to get the mandatory documentation –  everything was handled professionally. Most of the paper work was already kept ready thereby enabling a quick check-in.

There are 5 categories are rooms available in this resort – we had booked their Superior Deluxe rooms. The rooms that we were allotted were clean and laid out pretty well. The rooms looked a tad work out though – may be it is about time they got a face lift.

Some of the highlights of the resort are:

a. Pool: A huge plus point for the resort. A pretty big pool, clearly marked for kids, a shallow pool for people who are not good at swimming and a 10 feet smaller pool pool for people who have no fear water 🙂 .. Being summer, the water was clean, warm and welcoming. Also there was no dearth of sun beds – an issue with many pools… Would have liked to see some monitoring of the crowd though.. was a bit strange to see one family just walk by and start using our sun beds, in-spite of our stuff lying on it..

b. The SPA: A very well maintained Sohum Spa. The environment in the Spa was very welcoming – the soft music coupled with the aroma. All of us had a booked a session with them and none of us disappointed. The therapists were very good and all of us had a very relaxing time at the Spa. Will recommend at-least one session during your stay at this Spa.

The resort also has around 7 restaurants to cater to the needs of the customers.
  • Mallika – Fine dining Indian restaurant for dinner
  • Portofino – the restaurant where the buffet breakfast was served.
  • Their coffee shop – The Palms
  • A beach front restaurant named Seahawk
  • Lobby bar serving good cocktails and mocktails
  • Sunken bar for any poolside refreshments, and
  • Aquarius – which is seasonal (open only during November to April)

They also have a pretty well maintained Gym and a fun zone where one can rent bicycles and other engage in other activities. The lawns are very well maintained and there are many hammocks that are available where one can laze around reading a book and listening to music.

I personally loved the early morning jog on the beach. I lost track of time as the cool breeze coupled with bright early morning sun kept me going for a good hour or so. Few pics that I took while on the jog:

The only area of concern during our entire stay was the number of corporate events that were being conducted in the resort. The resort is not that big enough to have a separate area allocated for these corporate events. Inevitably one would find the entire resort being taken over by the folks who are attending these events. The pools no longer are a place to laze around, loud music for dance parties, fun zone being converted into a indoor party room etc.. Not sure if it had to do with the timing of our visit, but we did feel a bit left out during those corporate events as most of the staff were busy catering to the demands of these people.

I will definitely recommend this resort for families who would like to enjoy a private beach resort. If your expectations are, beautiful pristine private beach, good shacks, decent rooms to stay – Kenilworth is one of the best option for you.
